The Royal City Krakow by bike

Polski English

The Excursion begins in the city canter at our office, and runs to less inhabited quarters of Krakow. The first place of interest on the way is an old stone quarry called Zakrzówek. Nowadays, this stone pit is flooded by emerald crystal-clean water flowing from the underground springs. Its beauty and calm makes Zakrzówek one of the greatest natural attractions of Krakow, and the favourite venue for local divers and explorers. On the bottom of this artificial lake there is a bizarre underwater forest and some interesting wrecks of a bus, a few cars and boats. There is also an interesting story behind the place connected with Karol Wojtyla (late pope John Paul II), who was working here as a grinder during the Second World War (in 1940-44) and then composed a poem referring to this experience. The place is surrounded by the Park with beautiful white, rocky cliffs called „Skałki Twardowskiego”. There are also many caves and limestone ravines which make this place really mysterious and fascinating.

Afterwards, we go along the Vistula River, the longest river of Poland, towards the Kościuszko Mound. It was raised in memorial of national heroes who were fighting for our country to regain independence. From the top of the mound we can admire a stunning panorama of Krakow city. You will see everything around, the hills, mountains and the whole city. When the weather is clear enough you can even see the Tatra Mountains, the highest and most beautiful mountains of Poland.

Our next stop is the Main Market Square. A tourist guide tells us about the history of Krakow which is really complex. Then we cycle to the Kazimierz Querter, a Jewish district established in the 14th century. It is famous for its narrow streets, and you will enjoy the abundance of local markets, old-fashioned shops and cafes in the small tenements, and also traditional synagogues, and kirkuts (Jewish cemeteries). Everyone can feel the special atmosphere there, though the Jewish community inhabited Kazimierz shared the tragedy of Holocaust.

This route is prepared for tourists who visit Krakow for the first time. We will show you the most beautiful historical monuments downtown. We can also visit some less urbanized places in the city surroundings such as the Zakrzówek quarry.

Our experience allows us to prepare a diverse and interesting cycle routes for every demanding and active tourist. No-one who take the challenge to do the sightseeing on the wheels can resist to love a special atmosphere of the places we visit together.
